Our Kind of People

For a total change of pace, here’s my latest book, out in winter 2022. It’s a social comedy set in late-nineteenth century New York. There’s new money and old money, romance and snobbery, lots of wonderful dresses. I had great fun researching and writing it — I hope you’ll consider reading it! In paperback from Putnam Books, and also available for e-reading.

About carolwallace

I spend most of my time writing and reading. Most recent publications: the reissue of "To Marry an English Lord,"one of the inspirations for "Downton Abbey," and the historical novel "Leaving Van Gogh." I am too cranky to belong to a book group but I love the book-blogging community.

    Hi Carol

It’s susan Whitmire. We met in 2013? on the Smithsonian journey to England “Edwardian Era / Downton Abbey.” I am so pleased to hear you wrote a new book and I am looking forward to reading it!

Any chance you will be involved in any future trips? After all this isolation , I am ready to travel !

    Fondly, Susan

Susan! How nice to hear from you! I often think back with the utmost pleasure to that wonderful trip. So enjoyable to visit such wonderful places with a batch of congenial folk. I hope you are doing well.

No Smithsonian trips — or any other kind — scheduled at the moment. The new book is set entirely in New York City and a little bit up the Hudson … so at least there was no geographic research required. Hope you are doing well — Best, Carol
